ON OUR RADAR: Western Kentucky Botanical Garden

The Western Kentucky Botanical Garden is located in Owensboro, Kentucky, at 25 Carter Road. The Garden consists of 17.5 acres of land with 12 themed gardens – including a children’s garden and playhouse, an herb garden, a Kentucky quilt garden, ericaceous (acid-loving) garden, and more.

The Garden recently purchased nearby property consisting of a 180 year-old historic home that was a former bed and breakfast called WeatherBerry. In the near future, this beautiful home will be the welcome center for The Garden.

The Garden is the site of a nationally recognized garden of hybridized daylilies, and each year at the end of June, a Dazzling Daylilies celebration is held. Typically hot air balloon rides are offered, as well as fun for the entire family, and of course a gorgeous array of daylilies in full bloom.

The Garden welcomes visitors from 9-6 seven days a week during the growing season (March-October) and from 9-3 November through February. Visitors are encouraged to get off the beaten path, to ensure you see all the hidden treasures of The Garden.

Volunteers are always needed and very welcome. A volunteer work day is held the first Saturday of every month from March through October from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Check out the website at www.wkbg.org to keep up with all the exciting things going on here, as well as rental options. There are many beautiful sites in The Garden for weddings and photography sessions. Indoor space is available for rent for smaller events.
